Staunton / Augusta County, Virginia

Staunton and Augusta County are located in the beautiful Virginia Valley - the perfect hub for your Valley experience. This area is a treasure land of natural wonders and historical, cultural, and shopping activities. The region boasts numerous Civil War Trails, Grand Caverns and Natural Chimneys, and an abundance of fine dining and lodging facilities.

Historic downtown Staunton offers a compact and charming Victorian landscape with enormous, intricately-trimmed houses rising along steep streets to high summits. Within an hour, you’ll have visited art galleries, coffee shops, theaters, churches, restaurants, boutiques, and second-hand stores. You may want to contact Staunton Guided Tours for more of an in-depth walking or driving tour of this historic city.

Staunton’s recently restored Stonewall Jackson Hotel & Conference Center is a turn-of-the-century wonder near the north entrance to the city, offering luxurious overnight accommodations at surprisingly reasonable prices. If B&B’s are more your style, you’re in luck because Staunton has plenty to choose from, and most are within walking distance of downtown.

Staunton also offers up a heaping dose of history. President Woodrow Wilson was born here, and right in the center of town you’ll find both his birthplace and the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library, with unique displays and friendly, knowledgeable docents.

You don't want to miss the Frontier Culture Museum. The Museum tells the story of the people who migrated to America during the 1600s and 1700s from England, Germany, Ireland, and West Africa. To tell their story, the Museum has moved or reproduced examples of traditional rural buildings from each of these communities. The Museum engages visitors to these exhibits with a combination of interpretive signage and living history demonstrations.
